| Washington, DC (Sept. 10, 2008) – On Monday, the nation’s largest bipartisan women’s business group, Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), presented McLean business leader Jennifer Bisceglie, founder and president of InTEROS Solutions, Inc., with the Excellence in Federal Procurement Award. The award honors women entrepreneurs who have created a successful business by contracting with the federal government.
The award was presented during WIPP’s We Decide! conference in Washington, DC. CNN anchor Carol Costello delivered the keynote address and American Express OPEN President Susan Sobbott presented the award to Bisceglie. Also at the ceremony, OPEN joined WIPP in unveiling the “Give Me 5” program, aimed at increasing the number of women –owned businesses selling to the federal government.
“Jennifer founded her business in 2005, long before the creation of the ‘Give Me 5’ program, and has had to work through the complexity of federal contracting on her own,” said WIPP President Barbara Kasoff. “Her success is an inspirational example for women entrepreneurs at all levels who want to grow a wonderful and lucrative business by selling to the federal government.”
InTEROS Solutions, Inc., is supply chain and logistics management consulting company that creates comprehensive solutions for government agencies and major corporations. “The support for women-owned small businesses trying to make their way in the Federal market in non-traditional industries is key to ensuring a robust economy. I appreciate American Express OPEN’s and WIPP’s recognition of this fact and their leadership in making this happen.”
A strong advocate for women entrepreneurs, Bisceglie actively involved with WIPP as vice president for the organization’s Board of Directors for WIPP, serving on the Board of Advisors, acting as the national chair of the Instant Impact Grassroots Committee and is a National Founding Member. Held Sept. 8-9, WIPP’s two-day conference was attended by hundreds of women business entrepreneurs from across the country and included a diverse roster of speakers, including Republican and Democratic Members of Congress, pollsters and representatives from the McCain and Obama campaigns. The conference centered on women entrepreneurs’ strength in the 2008 election and issues challenging women-owned small businesses, such as economic opportunities, health care reforms and federal contracts.
Speakers at this year’s conference included Women for McCain Chair Judy Black, Women for Obama Chair Betsy Myers, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and national pollsters Celinda Lake (D), president of Lake Research Partners, and Kellyanne Conway (R), President and CEO of the polling company, Inc./Woman Trend.
Additionally, WIPP presented the Economic Blueprint: The Women Business Owners Platform for Growth at a public roundtable hosted by the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. The Economic Blueprint was created by 30 women’s business organizations as a call to action for Congress and the next administration.
