Interos Addresses Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Risks at HDMA Conference

McLean, VA (May 18, 2011) — Jennifer Bisceglie, President, Interos recently spoke at the May 17th-18th Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research Supply Chain Security Seminar. The Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research serves as the knowledge partner and research arm of the Healthcare Distribution Management Association. The Center is committed to serving the healthcare industry by providing research and education on priority patient safety and healthcare supply chain issues.

The two-day event, specifically designed for senior level healthcare supply chain professionals within security, logistics, risk management, and supply chain management as well as carrier companies, service providers, technology innovators, government officials and law enforcement, was held at the Westin in Alexandria, Virginia.

The hour-long presentation, "Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Risk Management" focused on the key elements of a trusted supply chain for risk management; best supply chain risk management (SCRM) practices; major obstacles and how to overcome them; industry trends; and lessons learned.

"The pharmaceutical industry and its supply chain professionals are working their way through the movement from blockbuster drugs to the handling of targeted treatment solutions. Additionally, there is a documented shift to an even more increased globalized network of suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and customers, as well as the outsourcing of functions that used to be done within in a single facility. This trend necessitates a cultural shift in our thinking and approach to supply chain risk management as an investment vs. an expense," says Jennifer Bisceglie, President, Interos Solutions. "This seminar highlighted the significant developments and challenges SCRM practioners face today. The good news is that with a change in our thinking along with best practices, we can get a handle on mitigating the risks; thereby bringing transparent, traceable and safe products to market. The solutions don't need to be big and expensive as much as focus on solving the real business problem we're each experiencing."
